Abstract

Soil respiration (Rs) in croplands is of primary importance in understanding C cycle mechanism and C balance of agroecosystem. This study aims to examine the Rs in three predominant crops in continental Croatia: maize, wheat and barley. The study was conducted at the experimental station of Agricultural Institute Osijek during the growing season 2021/2022. Rs was determined by in situ closed static chamber method. The study found that crop type plays a prominent role in dynamics of Rs, while temperature and moisture could play limiting roles. Significant temporal variation of Rs between months was found and was in the range of 8.07 - 23.5; 8.27 - 41.02 and 7.09 - 33.66 kg C – CO2 ha-1 day-1 in wheat, barley and maize respectively. Mean seasonal Rs for wheat, barley and maize was respectively 14.73, 19.64 and 12.72 kg C – CO2 ha-1 day-1. Cropped fields had 2-3 times higher Rs than no vegetation/fallow, which indicated the importance of autotrophic respiration in cropped fields.

Abstract (croatian)

Disanje tla (Rs) na obradivim površinama je od primarne važnosti za razumijevanje mehanizma kruženja i bilance ugljika agroekosustava. Ovo istraživanje ima za cilj istražiti disanje tla kod tri najzastupljenije žitarice u kontinentalnoj Hrvatskoj: kukuruzu, pšenici i ječmu, te njegovu sezonsku varijaciju. Istraživanje je provedeno na pokusnim površinama Poljoprivrednog instituta Osijek tijekom vegetacijske sezone 2021./2022. Disanje tla je utvrđeno in situ metodom zatvorenih statičkih komora. Istraživanjem je utvrđeno kako vrsta usjeva ima istaknutu ulogu u dinamici disanja tla, dok temperatura i vlaga tla mogu biti ograničavajući čimbenici. Istraživanjem je utvrđena značajna sezonska varijabilnost disanja tla koje se kretalo u rasponu 8,07 – 23,5; 8,27 – 41,02 i 7,09 – 33,66 kg C – CO2 ha-1 dan-1 za pšenicu, ječam i kukuruz redom. Prosječno sezonsko disanje tla za pšenicu, ječam i kukuruz iznosi redom 14,73; 19,64 i 12,72 kg C – CO2 ha-1 dan-1. Disanje tla je na površinama pod usjevom bilo 2-3 puta veće u odnosu na površine bez vegetacije/crni ugar, što ukazuje na važan doprinos autotrofnog disanja.
