Abstract

Bogatstvo prirodnih resursa trebalo bi biti blagoslov zemlje koja ga posjeduje. No,
takvo bogatstvo često se povezuje sa sporijim i slabijim ekonomskim razvojem. Iako
se intuitivno očekuje da će raspoloživost prirodnih resursa pozitivno utjecati na
ekonomski razvoj zemlje, konačni ishod često nije pozitivan. Taj fenomen naziva se
prokletstvom prirodnih resursa jer se na primjeru brojnih zemalja pokazuje da većina
njih, bogatih prirodnim resursima, ostvaruje ispodprosječan ekonomski rast i razvoj tj.
bogatstvo prirodnih resursa negativno utječe na njihovo gospodarstvo. Cilj ovog rada
bio je odrediti povezanost između prihoda od eksploatacije prirodnih bogatstva i
gospodarskog rasta na uzorku od 38 zemalja. Izračunom Spearmanovog koeficijenta
korelacije utvrđena je statistički značajna negativna korelacija između prihoda od
renti prirodnih bogatstva i bruto domaćeg proizvoda po stanovniku.

Abstract (english)

The abundance of natural resources should be the blessing of a country that owns
them. But such wealth is often associated with slower and weaker economic
development. Though one would intuitively expect that the availability of natural
resources would positively affect the economic development of a country, the final
outcome is often not positive. This phenomenon is called the resource curse, as it
appears that most natural resource-rich countries are experiencing a below-average
economic growth and development, i.e. the abundance of natural resources is
affecting their economies in a negative way. The aim of this paper was to determine
a correlation between the revenue from natural resource exploitation and economic
growth on a sample of 38 countries. Having calculated the Spearman's rank
correlation coefficient, a statistically significant negative correlation has been
determined between the revenue from natural resources rents and gross domestic
product per capita.
