Abstract

Obrada klaoničkog otpada opisana je “Pravilnikom o načinu postupanja sa životinjskim lešinama i otpadom životinjskog podrijetla te o njihovom uništavanju” (NN 24/03). Žohari su, zbog svoje otpornosti te širokog hranidbenog raspona, potencijalno sredstvo zbrinjavanja posebnih vrsta biorazgradivog otpada kao što je klaonički otpad. Svojim metabolizmom, slično kao i gujavice, prerađuju organsku tvar u humusni supstrat (blatticompost) pogodnog sastava kao gnojiva u poljoprivrednoj proizvodnji. Cilj ovoga rada bio je istražiti te opisati novu metodu zbrinjavanja klaoničkog otpada korištenjem žohara vrste Blaptica dubia i Blatta lateralis te utvrditi njihov potencijal u zbrinjavanju klaoničkog otpada III. kategorije tijekom proizvodnje komposta (blatticompost). Stoga, cilj istraživanja bio je analizirati količinu otpada i mogućnosti njegove razgradnje pomoću ovih dviju vrsta žohara, te usporediti mikrobiološke i kemijske karakteristike supstrata, dobivenog njihovom aktivnošću, s relevantnim literaturnim izvorima. Na temelju provedenih istraživanja, može se zaključiti da žohari vrste Blaptica dubia i Blatta lateralis pokazuju značajan potencijal u zbrinjavanju klaoničkog otpada i proizvodnji komposta. Njihova sposobnost razgradnje organskog materijala dovodi do smanjenja volumena otpada, dok dobiveni kompost pokazuje povoljne mikrobiološke i kemijske karakteristike. Ovi rezultati sugeriraju da bi se metoda korištenja žohara za zbrinjavanje klaoničkog otpada III. kategorije mogla primijeniti kao održiva i ekološki prihvatljiva alternativa konvencionalnim metodama zbrinjavanja klaoničkog otpada, uz dodatnu vrijednost u vidu proizvodnje kvalitetnog komposta. U budućnosti, korištenje žohara može znatno olakšati zbrinjavanje klaoničkog otpada s ekonomskog, energetskog i ekološkog aspekta.

Abstract (english)

The processing of slaughterhouse waste is described in the "Regulation on the Handling of Animal Carcasses and Animal-Origin Waste and Their Destruction" (NN 24/03). Due to their resilience and broad dietary range, cockroaches are a potential means of disposing of specific types of biodegradable waste, such as slaughterhouse waste. Through their metabolism, similar to earthworms , they convert organic matter into a humus-like substrate (blatticompost) suitable as fertilizer in agricultural production. The aim of this study was to investigate and describe a new method of slaughterhouse waste disposal using cockroach species Blaptica dubia and Blatta lateralis, and to determine their potential in processing category III slaughterhouse waste during compost production (blatticompost). Therefore, the objective of the research was to analyze the amount of waste and its degradation potential using these two cockroach species, and to compare the microbiological and chemical characteristics of the substrate obtained from their activity with relevant literature sources. Based on the conducted research, it can be concluded that cockroach species Blaptica dubia and Blatta lateralis show significant potential in the disposal of slaughterhouse waste and the production of compost. Their ability to degrade organic material leads to a reduction in waste volume, while the resulting compost exhibits favorable microbiological and chemical characteristics. These results suggest that the method of using cockroaches for the disposal of category III slaughterhouse waste could be applied as a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional slaughterhouse waste disposal methods, with the added value of producing high-quality compost. In the future, the use of cockroaches could significantly facilitate the disposal of slaughterhouse waste from economic, energy, and environmental perspectives.
