Abstract

Grah (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) je jedna od najčešće zastupljenih mahunarki u ljudskoj prehrani te postoji velika potreba za njegovim uzgojem. Sve učestalija sušna razdoblja uzrokuju stres koji dovodi do poremećaja u rastu i razvoju te u konačnici do smanjenja prinosa. Cilj ovog rada je bio analizirati i utvrditi utjecaj stresa suše na morfološka svojstva korijena graha. Biljke graha su uzgajane na pouch sustavu, u kontroliranim uvjetima komora rasta. Stres suše simuliran je dodavanjem polietilen glikola (PEG 8000) u hranjive otopine čime je postignut vodni potencijal otopine od -1MPa. Nakon pet dana uzgoja biljaka u tretmanu suše te u kontroli, slikan je korijen biljaka. Dobivene slike korištene su za analizu morfoloških karakteristika korijena pomoću WinRhizo Pro softvera. Stres suše značajno je reducirao sva mjerena morfološka svojstva korijena graha (ukupnu duljinu korijena, u volumen, prosječni promjer korijena, broj grananja i porast korijena) osim broja korijenovih vrhova. Stres suše najjače je djelovao na redukciju duljine, površine i volumena korijena te ova svojstva možemo smatrati najosjetljivijima u pogledu reakcije korijena graha na stres suše.

Abstract (english)

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is one of the most common legumes in the human diet and there is a great need for its cultivation. Increasingly frequent droughts cause stress that leads to disturbances in growth and development and ultimately to reduced yields. The aim of this study is to analyze and determine the influence of drought stress on the morphological properties of common bean cultivar roots. Plants were grown on a pouch system, under controlled growth chamber conditions. Drought stress was simulated by adding polyethylene glycol (PEG 8000) to the nutrient solutions thus achieving a water solution potential of -1MPa. After five days of growing the plants in the drought treatment and in the control, the root of the plants was photographed. The obtained images were used to analyze the morphological characteristics of the roots using WinRhizo Pro software.
Drought stress significantly reduced all measured morphological traits (root length, volume, surface area, average diameter, number of lateral axes and relative growth rate) except the number of root tips. Drought stress had greatest impact on the root length, volume, surface area, and thus these traits could be considered as most vulnerable traits to drought.
